About ChillSounds
By a guy with ADHD
The Story
Hello. I'm a some guy with ADHD who kept getting ads for Endel, Brain.fm, and all these "focus apps" charging $50-100/year.
So I built ChillSounds. In my spare time. With no budget.
Who Made This?
Not a company. Not a team. Not a startup with venture capital and a growth strategy.
Just one person with a laptop and too much caffeine
My Philosophy
- →Free forever.
- →No tracking. I don't know who you are. I don't want to know.
- →No accounts. No emails. No newsletter. Just sounds.
- →No BS. :)
Do I lose money running this site?
Yes, I do. Thanks for asking! I'm lucky enough to be able to cover the hosting and domain costs. So I do.
Can I be friends with you?
Maybe? But probably not. I do genuinely hope you have a great day though. ❤️
FAQ
Does this work offline?
Yes! ChillSounds is a Progressive Web App (PWA). Once you've visited the site, it caches everything you need. You can add it to your home screen and use it without internet. All the sounds are generated in real-time on your device, no streaming required.
Is this as good as a paid ADHD sound app?
Honestly? Probably not. They have a team, funding, and fancy algorithms.
Why does the audio stop when I lock my phone?
Ugh, I know. This is a browser limitation, not a ChillSounds bug.
Mobile browsers (especially Safari on iPhone) are aggressive about stopping background audio to save battery. I've implemented every workaround I can find, silent audio tricks, MediaSession API, keep-alive checks but sometimes the browser just... decides to stop. if you know a better way please tell me!
Tips that might help:
- Keep the browser tab in the foreground before locking
- Add ChillSounds to your home screen (PWA mode sometimes helps)
- Disable battery optimization for your browser in settings
- On iPhone: make sure Low Power Mode is off
For truly reliable background audio, I'd need to build a native app, which requires Apple/Google developer accounts, app store approval, and a lot more work. Maybe someday. For now, this is the best a free web app can do. Sorry. 💜
💡 Try installing as an app for better background audio:
Want to Support This?
You literally can't. There's no tip jar.
I don't want your money. I'm just some guy with a laptop who wanted to help. If you feel generous, go buy a random stranger a coffee.
Or just... be kind to someone today. That's worth more than any tip jar.
Spread the Word
If ChillSounds helps you, the best thing you can do is tell another ADHD person about it.
The more people who know about free alternatives, the less power these subscription-model companies have over our community.
Let's normalize free tools for ADHD. Together.
The Tech
ChillSounds runs entirely in your browser using the Web Audio API. All the binaural beats, noise, and spatial audio are generated in real-time on your device. No audio files streaming from servers. No backend needed.
That's why it's free, it costs me almost nothing to run. Just a domain name and some static file hosting. The magic happens in your browser.
